Heimtextil 2027 will present the Heimtextil Trends 27/28 in a Trend Space curated by Alcova, with architect and designer Patricia Urquiola continuing her collaboration with the trade fair for a third year. The presentation will interpret the trend theme “The Performance of Everyday Living” through a group of three sculptures.
Alongside the familiar “Bambi” element, Urquiola is developing two new pieces specifically for Heimtextil. The three works will bring together Alcova’s approach to the Heimtextil Trends 27/28, titled “Home-Maxxing – The Performance of Everyday Living”, and Urquiola’s distinctive language of materials and design. Although both design partnerships have developed over several editions of Heimtextil, they will come together directly in the Trend Space for the first time in 2027.
From digital image to physical form
The new presentation expands on the “Bambi” figure shown in Urquiola’s “among-all” installation at the previous edition. The hybrid silver creature will be joined by two additional figures created specifically for Heimtextil. The new pieces build on the existing forms and materials while extending the concept into a family of three hybrid creatures.
The development reflects a process that has unfolded across several editions. In 2025, Urquiola presented “Bambi” digitally on a monitor at Heimtextil. For the 2026 edition, the figure became a physical element. In 2027, the concept will be developed further through two additional figures and a continued exploration of material, form and textile-related expression.
“For Heimtextil 2027, I return with a family of three hybrid creatures: the third chapter of a research that keeps evolving, one edition at a time. Together, the pieces trace a journey – from digital imagery to physical presence – and open a new chapter in material experimentation, where textile becomes a living, evolving form,” says Patricia Urquiola.
Material contrasts in the Trend Space
Alcova connects Urquiola’s contribution particularly closely with the “Hyper Presence” trend direction. This theme places physical presence, material character and human connection at the centre of the presentation. The installation is intended to suggest that not every element in the home needs to measure, accompany or optimise its users; some objects can instead create an effect through material, touch and comfort.
The project also relates to the other trend directions, “Staged Competence” and “Inside, Out”. One example is the material used for “Bambi”, known as “Ohoskin”. Its metallised surface initially suggests a technical, industrial and futuristic product, while the material is made from by-products of Sicilian oranges. This contrast between a technological appearance and a natural origin is presented by Alcova as a way of making the object feel more human and approachable.
Visitors will be able to see the Heimtextil Trends 27/28 and Patricia Urquiola’s design elements in the Trend Space at Heimtextil from 12 to 15 January 2027 in Frankfurt am Main.
