Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan boost aviation connectivity with expanded flight frequency agreement

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have unlocked a new chapter in their aviation partnership, setting the stage for dramatically improved connectivity between the two Central Asian neighbors. The breakthrough came during the second conference of the Working Group on Civil Aviation Cooperation “Central Asia – China” (C5+1), where aviation authorities from both nations hammered out an ambitious agreement to substantially expand flight operations.

The deal represents more than just numbers on a timetable — it’s a strategic move to transform regional connectivity. Under the new arrangement, designated carriers from both countries can now operate up to 42 flights per week on the high-demand Almaty – Tashkent and Astana – Tashkent corridors. Meanwhile, other routes will see their capacity boosted to 14 flights per week, a significant jump from previous limitations.

Early Success Stories Already Taking Flight

The cooperation isn’t just theoretical — it’s already producing tangible results. Uzbek carrier My Freighter (Centrum Air) launched operations on the Aktau – Nukus route in early July 2025, maintaining a steady twice-weekly schedule. Not to be outdone, Kazakhstan’s Fly Arystan introduced the Atyrau – Tashkent connection just weeks later in mid-July, with three weekly flights connecting these strategic regional hubs.

Beyond frequency increases, both sides agreed to expand the roster of designated airports that will handle regular international flights, creating more entry points and flexibility for travelers and cargo operations. Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport emphasized the strategic vision behind these moves: “This step is aimed at improving transport accessibility, strengthening business and cultural ties, and enhancing the tourist appeal of both countries.”

Strategic Positioning for Regional Transport Corridors

The timing couldn’t be more critical. As both nations occupy pivotal positions along the North-South and East-West transport corridors, the enhanced aviation connectivity creates new opportunities for integrated logistics solutions. The partnership addresses a fundamental challenge identified by industry experts: neither country can effectively tackle aviation development challenges in isolation.

For international businesses eyeing expansion into Central Asian markets, this aviation breakthrough opens compelling new possibilities. The dramatically improved flight frequency between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan creates a robust air bridge that can significantly reduce logistics costs and transit times for companies operating across both markets. Furniture and interior design companies, in particular, stand to benefit from more efficient transportation of samples, prototypes, and finished goods between major commercial centers like Almaty, Astana, and Tashkent. Construction industry players will find it easier to coordinate cross-border projects, move specialized equipment, and deploy technical expertise where needed. The expanded airport network also means more entry points for international suppliers and manufacturers looking to establish regional distribution hubs. Most importantly, the enhanced connectivity reduces the traditional barrier of complex multi-stop routing that has historically made Central Asian markets less attractive for international trade. With direct, frequent flights now available, companies can more easily establish regional offices, conduct face-to-face business meetings, and build the personal relationships that remain crucial for successful business ventures in this region.
