LIGNA 2025, set to take place from May 26–30 in Hanover, marks a pivotal event for the global woodworking and wood processing industry. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the trade show will host over 1,200 exhibitors across 112,000 square meters of exhibition space, underscoring its importance even in challenging economic conditions.
A Platform for Innovation and Investment (LIGNA)
“LIGNA is currently almost at the same level as the previous event,” said Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of Deutsche Messe AG. “Despite the economic conditions, the trade fair will foster productivity and sustainability, offering much-needed motivation for investments.”
Dr. Bernhard Dirr of VDMA Woodworking Machinery Association highlighted the unique value of LIGNA: “In challenging times, direct dialogue with customers is essential for driving new investment momentum. LIGNA is where pioneering technologies and future strategies come to the forefront.”
Catalyst for Industry Recovery
Stephanie Wagner, Head of LIGNA, described the strong response to the event as a sign of resilience: “We’re looking forward to an inspiring anniversary edition, confident it will ignite renewed market confidence and serve as a catalyst for economic recovery.”
Siempelkamp CEO Samiron Mondal emphasized the event’s networking potential: “LIGNA is the ideal forum to showcase innovations and exchange ideas.” Rudolf Eickhoff, Technical Managing Director of Venjakob, added, “Discussing sustainable production methods is crucial in these competitive times to maintain long-term competitiveness.”
Navigating Economic Uncertainty (LIGNA)
Despite the optimism, the woodworking sector remains under pressure due to economic and political uncertainties. “We are navigating politically tense times concerning tariffs and exchange rates,” noted Dr. Köckler. He emphasized wood’s role as a sustainable resource, vital for CO₂ storage and climate goals.
Key Themes: Connectivity, Sustainability, and Engineered Wood
LIGNA 2025 will focus on CONNECTIVITY, SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION, and ENGINEERED WOOD, addressing the industry’s transformation. Stephanie Wagner stated, “These themes reflect the industry’s future direction, emphasizing digital connectivity, sustainable practices, and innovative materials.”
New Formats and Long-Standing Traditions (LIGNA)
Two new formats debut this year: LIGNA.Circular in Hall 12, focusing on circular value creation and sustainability, and LIGNA.TruckStop, showcasing advancements in tools and equipment for joiners and carpenters. Both promise engaging presentations, practical demonstrations, and best-case studies.
Traditional highlights include the Carpenters’ Day, featuring tailored programs and initiatives such as the “Die Gute Form 2025” design competition and the new “Ergonomie der Werkstatt” project. Prestigious awards like the German Timber Construction Prize will also take center stage.
