The first phase of the International Airport Tashkent’s large-scale arrival hall modernization was completed in June 2025, marking a significant milestone in the country’s airport infrastructure development. The expanded right section of the terminal entered operations, introducing a range of passenger-focused improvements that set the stage for the airport’s continued transformation.
Expanding physical infrastructure and amenities
The reconstruction expanded the arrival hall by 2,100 square meters through a strategic extension of the building facade. This expansion enabled several operational enhancements: a newly expanded customs zone, an additional baggage carousel, and most notably, a dedicated passenger greeters zone with 120 seating positions — a first for the terminal. New vehicle infrastructure was also constructed, including a modern approach road for taxis, personal vehicles, and buses, complemented by a 120-space parking lot.
The phased construction approach proved essential to keep the airport functional throughout renovation. From November 2024 through June, work proceeded continuously despite intense operational demands — the airport handled up to 200 flights daily during this period. Project representatives emphasized the logistical complexity: «We chose a phased format because we had no option to halt airport operations. From November through June, despite weather conditions and the intensive passenger flow, construction ran without interruption. We thank passengers for their understanding,» they noted.
Continuing modernization roadmap
The second reconstruction phase was scheduled for completion by the end of 2025, focusing on installing additional baggage handling systems and expanding the greeters zone to accommodate retail shops, cafes, and service facilities. The final stage involves integrating the arrival and departure halls into a unified terminal complex with a total area exceeding 10,000 square meters and a capacity of 2,400 passengers per hour — double the current throughput.
According to infrastructure officials, the full completion of the consolidated terminal was targeted for mid-2026, with significant work required on underground engineering systems. The original 2025 completion target was extended due to the complexity of modernizing infrastructure at an airport that has operated continuously for over 70 years.
Significance for international business
For international companies engaged in construction, logistics, supply chain management, and business operations across Central Asia, this modernization carries direct implications. Enhanced airport capacity and streamlined passenger processing translate to improved connectivity for international personnel, more efficient goods transport, and a measurably improved business environment. The project demonstrates Uzbekistan’s commitment to upgrading critical transportation infrastructure that directly supports the movement of both people and materials essential for regional trade and investment. Improved airport facilities strengthen the country’s appeal as a regional logistics hub and gateway for international business expansion into Central Asia.
