At the end of the year 2020, the total number of hospital beds in Russia reached approximately 1.46 million, counting 24-hour hospitals and day hospitals together. This represents a 0.7% increase year-over-year.
This growth was secured almost entirely by increased number of infectious disease wards due to the COVID-19 pandemic (up by 288% year-over-year, reaching 220,820 beds in total), while most of the facilities of other types showed reduced dynamics in their capacities.
The total number of organizations for medical care of hospitalized patients amounted to 5,065 facilities, down by 1.27% from a year ago. The average capacity was 287 beds / patients per hospital.
The hospitals capacity is one of the key factors shaping the demand for medical furniture and other similar equipment for hospital wards and rooms, which are being periodically renovated. We are tracking this indicator more closely, including the performance by various regions of Russia, within our extended Market Reports.
