In 2021, the volume of furniture exports from Russia to Kazakhstan reached 213.1 million USD. This represents a 48.1% increase to the corresponding period of the previous year. This gross estimation also includes parts of furniture, mattresses, bedding, mattress supports, healthcare and other professional furniture, so the HS codes 9401, 9402, 9403, 9404 are considered.
The share of Kazakhstan in Russian furniture exports is as much as 31.8% in 2021, which is higher than in 2019 (31.6%) and 2020 (30.6%).
Furniture exports to Kazakhstan consist mainly of
- wooden furniture for dining and living rooms, priced higher than 1.8 EUR per kilo (10.3%),
- metal furniture excluding beds or professional furniture (9.8%),
- parts (9.8%), with wooden parts and metal parts being the top product groups here,
- wooden furniture for bedrooms, priced higher than 1.8 EUR per kilo (7.2%),
- other wooden furniture excluding for offices, kitchens, bedrooms or seats, priced higher than 1.8 EUR per kilo (6.7%),
- wooden furniture for dining and living rooms, priced up to 1.8 EUR per kilo (6.4%),
- upholstered seating furniture with wooden frames (6.4%),
- seating furniture convertible into a bed (6.3%),
- furniture of plastics (4.2%),
- wooden furniture for bedrooms, priced up to 1.8 EUR per kilo (4.2%),
- and spring mattresses (4.0%).
These categories together provide more than 75% of the total value of furniture exported to this country. Each other furniture category accounts for 3% or less.
The growth in 2021 was mainly driven by
- wooden furniture for dining and living rooms, priced higher than 1.8 EUR per kilo (+54%),
- metal furniture excluding beds or professional furniture (+73%),
- other wooden furniture excluding for offices, kitchens, bedrooms or seats, priced higher than 1.8 EUR per kilo (+51%),
- upholstered seating furniture with wooden frames (+98%),
- seating furniture convertible into a bed (+69%),
- furniture of plastics (+48%).
Some smaller scale categories also showed a higher than average increase, for instance:
- fitted kitchen units of wood (+76%),
- upholstered seating furniture with metal frames excluding swivel chairs (+65%),
- swivel chairs with variable height adjustment excluding medical, surgical, dental, or veterinary (+50%).
The average price for furniture exported to this country is growing consistently. In 2021, the average price declared at customs reached 2.21 USD per kilo (previously 1.45 USD in 2019 and 1.75 USD in 2020). This growth goes hand in hand with general annual increase of the average price for Russian furniture exports.
The weighted average of the currency exchange rate was 73.6541 RUB for 1 USD in the current period under review. This rate shall be used to accurately convert the exported value to rubles.
