In 2021, the volume of furniture exports from Russia to Germany reached 72.3 million USD. This represents a 37.8% increase to the corresponding period of the previous year. This gross estimation also includes parts of furniture, mattresses, bedding, mattress supports, healthcare and other professional furniture, so the HS codes 9401, 9402, 9403, 9404 are considered.
The share of Germany in Russian furniture exports is as much as 10.78% in 2021, which is lower than in 2019 (10.88%) and 2020 (11.17%).
Furniture exports to Germany consist mainly of
- parts (33.6%), with wooden parts being the top product group here,
- wooden furniture for dining and living rooms, priced higher than 1.8 EUR per kilo (14.2%),
- wooden furniture for bedrooms, priced up to 1.8 EUR per kilo (13.3%),
- wooden furniture for dining and living rooms, priced up to 1.8 EUR per kilo (9.3%), •seating furniture convertible into a bed (5.9%),
- wooden furniture for bedrooms, priced higher than 1.8 EUR per kilo (4.8%),
- and other wooden furniture excluding for offices, kitchens, bedrooms or seats, priced up to 1.8 EUR per kilo (2.7%).
These categories together provide more than 83% of the total value of furniture exported to this country. Each other furniture category accounts for 2% or less.
The growth in 2021 was mainly driven by
- wooden furniture for dining and living rooms, priced up to 1.8 EUR per kilo (+100%),
- wooden furniture for bedrooms, priced higher than 1.8 EUR per kilo (+76%),
- other wooden furniture excluding for offices, kitchens, bedrooms or seats, priced up to 1.8 EUR per kilo (+222%).
Some smaller scale categories also showed a higher than average increase, for instance:
- seats of a kind used for aircraft (+637%),
- swivel chairs with variable height adjustment excluding medical, surgical, dental, or veterinary (+194%),
- metal furniture excluding beds or professional furniture (+129%).
The average price for furniture exported to this country is lower than average, although the annual trend is upward. In 2021, the average price declared at customs reached 1.58 USD per kilo (previously 1.34 USD in 2019 and 1.44 USD in 2020). This growth goes hand in hand with general annual increase of the average price for Russian furniture exports.
The weighted average of the currency exchange rate was 73.6541 RUB for 1 USD in the current period under review. This rate shall be used to accurately convert the exported value to rubles.
