ORGATEC 2024 will introduce an innovative design competition, #BlindDate, in collaboration with Danish Design Makers (DDM) and consultancy Målbar, aiming to foster creativity while emphasizing sustainability. This fresh format brings together 20 European design brands and undisclosed creative talents who were tasked with developing prototypes based on the theme of “reduction.” The designs will be unveiled on the opening day of ORGATEC, 22 October 2024, in Hall 4.2.
The #BlindDate concept eliminates biases by keeping the identities of both companies and designers hidden throughout the process. After a six-month creative period, participants will reveal their work, encouraging dialogue and innovation in design without preconceptions.
“We believe this experiment will lead to meaningful discussions between creative talent and manufacturers,” said Antonio Scaffidi, co-founder of DDM. “By focusing on reduction, we want to challenge the status quo and explore the future relevance of good design.”
The challenge tackles critical issues within the interior design sector, including excessive resource use and rising carbon emissions. By emphasizing “reduction,” the project aims to drive sustainable innovation, addressing global environmental concerns and promoting resource efficiency and circular economy practices.
“With the #BlindDate project, ORGATEC is fostering creativity and resource efficiency while building stronger ties between companies and designers,” said Thomas Postert, Director of ORGATEC. The project highlights the industry’s ongoing efforts to develop sustainable solutions for future design challenges.
