From October 22 to 25, 2024, ORGATEC, in partnership with Haute Innovation, will unveil the #CircularBiomaterials Focus Area at Hall 4.2 of the Koelnmesse exhibition grounds. This initiative is part of ORGATEC’s commitment to fostering a circular economy within the office and contract furniture industries by offering a glimpse into the future of sustainable material technologies.
As a leader in showcasing new visions of work, ORGATEC is set to emphasize sustainable resource management through the introduction of the #CircularBiomaterials Focus Area. This segment of the fair will highlight innovations that contribute to a healthier environment and offer practical solutions within the workspace.
Thomas Postert, the event’s director, noted, “Sustainability and the circular economy are crucial to ORGATEC. We are working closely with our exhibitors to present material innovations that are not only circular but also provide extensive commercial and technical benefits.”
The #CircularBiomaterials Focus Area will feature a range of biocircular materials. These include textiles made from banana fibers, furniture foams derived from seagrass, and upholstery fillings created from bulrush fibers. Characterized by their ability to biodegrade naturally, these materials present viable alternatives to synthetic products, often associated with higher carbon footprints.
The benefits of these innovative materials are multifaceted. They not only improve material efficiency and enhance the well-being of users in indoor environments but also contribute to the development of closed-loop cycles in office and contract furniture production. This approach significantly lowers carbon dioxide emissions and paves the way for potentially 100% climate-neutral manufacturing processes.
ORGATEC 2024 will provide attendees the opportunity to directly engage with these groundbreaking materials. The #CircularBiomaterials Focus Area will present 30 exhibits from developers, research institutes, manufacturers, and designers across 14 countries, organized around four central themes: Organic Waste Streams, Regrowing Materials, Biocircular Materials, and Smart Nature & Biofabrication.
The #CircularBiomaterials is just one among several Focus Areas at ORGATEC 2024, including #TheCircularHouse, #InspiredAugmentedOffice, #OfficeXperience, #Indoor&OutdoorHospitality, and #ImpulseContract, each poised to highlight key industry advancements and innovations.
