The organizers of DOMOTEX have announced the cancellation of the 2025 edition of the “Carpets & Rugs” show, originally planned for January. The event will now be rescheduled for 2026, when it will return on a larger scale and shift to a biennial format. In addition to its established focus on flooring, the expanded show will include a broader range of interior finishing products, such as paints, wallpapers, acoustic elements, tiles, outdoor coverings, privacy shields, and shading elements.
In January 2026, DOMOTEX will gather the international flooring and interior design community at the Hannover exhibition grounds, offering an integrated platform for discovering innovative products for floors, walls, and ceilings. The expanded product mix reflects the evolving needs of the industry, responding to growing demand for more comprehensive solutions in interior finishing. This marks a transformation of DOMOTEX from a leading flooring show into an international trade fair for floor coverings and interior design, promising to create synergies across various sectors.
Sonia Wedell-Castellano, Global Director of DOMOTEX, explained the rationale behind the shift: “Following intensive discussions with exhibiting companies, we have decided to integrate the presentation of ‘Carpets & Rugs’ into the biennial rhythm of DOMOTEX and present it together with the floor coverings and interior finishing sectors.”
The expansion aligns with the increasing trend among flooring manufacturers to diversify their product ranges, incorporating wall coverings and outdoor materials. The success of the 2024 Retailers’ Park at DOMOTEX, which focused on interior finishing and was well received by industry professionals, further influenced the decision to broaden the event’s scope. According to a visitor survey, 42 percent of attendees expressed interest in products beyond flooring, reinforcing the demand for a more holistic approach to interior spaces.
In 2026, DOMOTEX will evolve under the theme “Creating Rooms – Transforming Spaces,” offering a platform where industry professionals from retail, trade, and architecture can explore solutions that cater to the full spectrum of surface design.
