The global lighting and building-services technology industry demonstrated its resilience and commitment to sustainability at this year’s major Frankfurt exhibition, attracting 151,192 visitors from 146 countries. The event marked a significant 68% increase in attendance compared to the 2022 edition, with 2,169 exhibitors showcasing the latest developments in building technology and innovative lighting design from March 3-8, 2024.
International participation remained strong, with 51% of visitors and 76% of exhibitors coming from outside Germany. The most represented visitor countries included China, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, the UK, Spain and Poland, alongside participants from India, the USA, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Brazil and Singapore.
Sustainability and Efficiency Drive Innovation
The exhibition placed strong emphasis on sustainability and efficiency in buildings, with key themes including electrification and digitalisation of homes and buildings to reduce emissions and reuse raw materials. The industry presented digital and electrotechnical infrastructure, showcasing solutions for dynamic power control, energy storage systems and applications for connected security.
E-mobility and charging infrastructure emerged as a growing area, alongside innovations for decentralised energy supply systems and components. The lighting sector, representing 65% of exhibitors, presented high-quality solutions for indoor and outdoor areas, featuring modern LED installations that ensure contemporary efficiency while either blending harmoniously into architecture or emphasising design elements.
High Visitor Satisfaction and Industry Response
The event achieved remarkable visitor satisfaction levels, with 95% extremely satisfied with what was on display and 93% stating they had achieved their trade fair attendance targets. “The atmosphere at the exhibitors’ booths, in the halls and throughout the exhibition grounds was simply fantastic,” said Wolfgang Marzin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Messe Frankfurt.
Alexander Neuhäuser, General Manager of ZVEH, noted: “Light + Building demonstrates how sector coupling can succeed through the necessary connectivity. The electrical trades integrate photovoltaics, storage, electromobility and heat pumps.”
Wolfgang Weber, CEO of ZVEI, emphasized the global relevance: “The exhibiting companies have impressively demonstrated how easily well-designed climate protection can even lead to greater economic efficiency in the operation of houses, buildings and entire neighbourhoods.”
The next edition is scheduled for March 8-13, 2026 in Frankfurt am Main.
