China’s CNBM unveils renewable energy and manufacturing localization strategy for Uzbekistan

A high-stakes business meeting in Beijing has set the stage for a major expansion of Chinese manufacturing and energy infrastructure investments in Uzbekistan. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s September 2 meeting with Zhou Yuxiang, Chairman of China National Building Materials (CNBM), unveiled an ambitious roadmap that could transform Uzbekistan’s renewable energy landscape and establish new manufacturing capabilities.

CNBM, a Fortune 500 powerhouse and one of the world’s largest construction materials conglomerates, presented comprehensive plans spanning renewable energy development and advanced engineering solutions. The company’s portfolio extends far beyond traditional building materials, encompassing cutting-edge renewable energy technologies and sophisticated technical solutions that align perfectly with Uzbekistan’s modernization objectives.

Strategic infrastructure modernization plans

The discussion centered on several transformative infrastructure projects that CNBM is prepared to implement across Uzbekistan. The company’s agenda includes comprehensive modernization of pumping stations, which represents a critical upgrade to the country’s water management infrastructure. These improvements will enhance operational efficiency and support industrial growth across multiple sectors.

More significantly, CNBM outlined plans for constructing wind and solar power stations throughout Uzbekistan, accompanied by advanced energy storage systems. This renewable energy infrastructure development represents a cornerstone of the country’s transition toward sustainable energy independence and positions Uzbekistan as a regional leader in clean energy adoption.

Manufacturing localization initiative

Perhaps the most strategically important aspect of CNBM’s proposal involves establishing local manufacturing capabilities for renewable energy components within Uzbekistan. This localization strategy promises to create domestic production facilities that will manufacture essential components for alternative energy projects, reducing dependency on imports and fostering technology transfer.

President Mirziyoyev demonstrated strong commitment to advancing these initiatives by instructing officials to develop a dedicated roadmap that will accelerate implementation of the agreements reached during the meeting. This directive signals the government’s recognition of the strategic importance of these partnerships for the country’s industrial development.

For international companies in furniture, construction, interior manufacturing, and architectural sectors, this development opens significant opportunities in Uzbekistan’s expanding infrastructure and renewable energy markets. The establishment of local manufacturing capabilities for energy components, combined with major infrastructure modernization projects, creates a ripple effect that will drive demand for construction materials, interior solutions, and specialized manufacturing equipment. Companies positioned to support or complement these large-scale infrastructure developments will find Uzbekistan’s market increasingly attractive as the country builds its renewable energy sector and modernizes its industrial base.
