interzum 2025 is set to shine a spotlight on sustainable resource management in the furniture production and interior design sectors, adopting “Rethinking Resources: Circular and Biobased Solutions” as its central theme. Scheduled for May 20-23, 2025, at the Koelnmesse exhibition grounds, the event will focus on the integration of circular economy practices and biobased materials to drive industry innovation and sustainable development.
Director of Interzum, Maik Fischer, emphasized the fair’s commitment to these innovative approaches. “With ‘Rethinking Resources: Circular and Biobased Solutions’ as its central theme, interzum will address one of neo-ecology’s key pillars,” he stated. “By bringing together the two approaches – the circular economy and biobased materials – the world’s leading trade fair for furniture production and interior design will advance the development of product innovations that are both long-lasting and produced from sustainable sources.”
The fair will demonstrate how transitioning to a circular economy can extend the lifecycle of materials and products through reuse, repair, refurbishment, and recycling. Conversely, biobased solutions offer an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional materials, utilizing regrowing sources that help reduce ecological footprints.
Throughout the event, these themes will be explored in depth across various platforms. The interzum Trend Stage and three specialized forums will engage experts in discussions about market-ready sustainable solutions. Additionally, a significant number of exhibitors will display innovations that utilize biobased materials and support circular economy principles.
In a unique feature of the fair, the Boulevard North will be transformed into the Rethinking Resources Boulevard, showcasing inspiring solutions aimed at sustainable furniture production.
interzum 2025 will maintain its traditional three-segment structure:
- Function & Components: This segment will feature technologies that enhance energy efficiency, comfort, and convenience, including fittings, lighting systems, and semi-finished products.
- Materials & Nature: Focusing on sustainable raw materials, this segment will display woods, veneers, parquet flooring, and decorative surfaces, among others.
- Textile & Machinery: Leaders in innovation will present their ideas and materials, covering machinery for upholstery and mattress production, as well as upholstery fabrics and adhesives.
The organization of these segments facilitates idea exchanges and provides clarity for exhibitors and trade visitors alike, maintaining interzum’s role as a pivotal global industry event. Early registration numbers already suggest strong interest and participation from key industry players, underlining interzum’s influence as a primary platform for industry innovation and sustainability.
