Ozon to establish trade and logistics network in Kyrgyzstan

Ozon, one of Russia’s leading e-commerce platforms, is set to significantly expand its operations in Kyrgyzstan, beginning with the launch of a logistics center in May. This new facility, covering an area of 1,000 square meters, represents a strategic move to enhance the company’s distribution capabilities within the region.

Alexey Sapon, the director of Ozon in the CIS, announced the expansion during a recent interview. In addition to the logistics center, Ozon plans to open its first two order pick-up points in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, this April. The company aims to increase its local presence by establishing a total of 15 pick-up points across the country by the end of the year.

In a move to support the local economy, Ozon will also inaugurate a support center for Kyrgyz entrepreneurs in June, located in Bishkek. This center will provide essential resources and guidance to help local businesses leverage the Ozon platform to reach a broader market.

Implications for Local Markets and Businesses

Ozon’s expansion into Kyrgyzstan is poised to bring significant changes to the local e-commerce landscape. The establishment of a logistics center and multiple pick-up points will not only streamline the online shopping experience for customers but also enhance the efficiency of order fulfillment. This expansion is likely to spur competition within the local e-commerce sector, potentially leading to better services and lower prices for consumers.

For Kyrgyz entrepreneurs, the new support center represents a valuable opportunity to access a larger customer base and integrate into a well-established e-commerce network. Ozon’s support could include training in online sales strategies, marketing, and the use of e-commerce tools, which would be instrumental in scaling their businesses.

The move by Ozon to expand operations in Kyrgyzstan reflects a growing trend of e-commerce globalization, where large platforms are increasingly establishing physical and operational presences in new markets to tap into local consumer bases and provide support to small and medium-sized enterprises. This development is expected to contribute positively to the digital economy of Kyrgyzstan, encouraging more businesses to participate in e-commerce and digital trade.
