Uzbekistan unveils ambitious infrastructure transformation across regions to boost tourism and business connectivity

Uzbekistan is accelerating a comprehensive infrastructure modernization campaign spanning multiple regions, with a strategic focus on creating hubs for international business, tourism, and logistics connectivity. The initiative reflects the country’s broader push to position itself as a central Asian gateway for commerce and cultural exchange.

Tourism and cultural infrastructure in western regions

The Khiva region is set for significant development, with plans to construct a Congress Center and historico-ethnographic park designed to accommodate large international conferences and cultural events. These facilities aim to attract global tourism and position Khiva as a premier destination for international conferences and forums.

Complementing these hospitality facilities, the Institute of Confucius and a traditional artisan workshop will offer cultural and educational programming, creating venues for cross-cultural learning and skill development in heritage crafts.

Transport and logistics modernization

A major infrastructure upgrade is underway at Urgench International Airport, where expanded facilities will enhance passenger services and freight handling capacity. The modernization is part of a broader effort to strengthen regional logistics capabilities and international connectivity.

To improve passenger convenience and integrated transport flows, a dedicated railway line will connect Urgench station directly to the airport. Additionally, comprehensive improvements to the Urgench–Khiva highway corridor include road beautification and landscaping, alongside plans for an alternative automotive route to manage traffic flow and tourism traffic more effectively.

Business event infrastructure in Fergana

Fergana will host a new expo center equipped to accommodate international exhibitions, business forums, and large-scale events. Officials highlight the project’s potential to increase investment attractiveness and position the region as a business events destination within Central Asia.

Educational infrastructure expansion

The Bukhara region will see construction of a modern campus for Bukhara State University, designed to provide contemporary educational and research environments for faculty and students. A new research center dedicated to scholar Burhaniddin Marghilani will focus on international-level activities in spiritual heritage studies and scientific research, establishing a modern research school in the region.

Presidential priorities and implementation standards

The infrastructure roadmap reflects broader governmental strategy to ensure balanced development across regions while supporting Uzbekistan’s positioning as a center for business activity and international engagement. Officials have emphasized strict adherence to quality standards, modern design principles, and passenger and user convenience in all project implementations, directing responsible agencies to prioritize sustainable urban development and responsiveness to population needs.

Significance for international business

For international companies in construction, hospitality, logistics, event management, and interior design sectors, these projects represent significant market opportunities. The modernization of transport infrastructure — particularly airport facilities and railway connectivity — creates demand for specialized services in cargo handling, passenger amenities, and facility management. The development of congress centers and expo facilities opens prospects for design, furnishing, and event infrastructure suppliers. Additionally, the scale and quality standards of these projects indicate growing procurement opportunities for international firms offering modern construction materials, building systems, and interior solutions aligned with contemporary business standards.
