A new joint laboratory for renewable energy has been launched by Uzbekistan and China’s Inner Mongolia, signaling that Central Asia is ready to take a more ambitious role in the regional energy transition under the One Belt – One Road initiative.
Strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Inner Mongolia
The opening ceremony brought together senior officials and experts from the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the government of the Autonomous Region of Inner Mongolia of the People’s Republic of China, the Technological University of Inner Mongolia, as well as representatives of leading universities and research organizations from both sides.
Uzbekistan was represented by the first deputy minister of energy, Umid Mamadaminov, while Inner Mongolia was represented by the deputy secretary of the regional party committee, Shi Guanghui, and the vice president of the Technological University of Inner Mongolia, Professor Guo Hongfei. In their remarks, they stressed that deepening scientific cooperation in renewable energy, accelerating the introduction of innovative technologies and training highly qualified specialists are becoming core priorities for both partners.
Joint laboratory under the One Belt – One Road framework
The new laboratory has been established within the One Belt – One Road initiative as a cooperative project between Uzbekistan’s National Research Institute of Renewable Energy under the Ministry of Energy and the Technological University of Inner Mongolia of the People’s Republic of China. This gives the partnership not only a bilateral, but also a broader regional dimension, aligned with long term infrastructure and industrial modernisation plans across Central Asia.
