Croatia and Uzbekistan agree to expand economic cooperation with strategic investment focuses

On July 23, Uzbekistan and Croatia held high-level online negotiations aimed at expanding their economic collaboration, marking a significant step forward in bilateral relations between the two nations.

The discussions between Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, and Croatia’s Minister of Economy, Ante Šušnjar, centered on bolstering trade and economic ties, deepening institutional cooperation, and preparing for upcoming bilateral visits scheduled within the year.

The meeting underscored promising investment avenues, especially emphasizing energy and renewable energy, industrial development, transport and logistics infrastructure, and the tourism sector. Both nations agreed on concrete steps to elevate their partnership to a new level.

Building on a Growing Partnership with Strategic Focus Areas

Recent years have seen a swift rise in Uzbekistan-Croatia cooperation, especially in economic and taxation spheres. Earlier initiatives such as the first Uzbek-Croatian business forum, attended by representatives from over 50 Croatian companies and organized jointly by the ministries of both countries, have laid down a robust foundation for this advancement.

The forum highlighted Uzbekistan’s favorable business climate, reinforced by preferential access to European markets via the GSP+ system. Minister Kudratov emphasized leveraging digital transformation as a key enabler for expanding trade relations, while also showcasing Uzbekistan’s industrial and investment potential.

The July meeting advanced these narratives by identifying specific priority sectors: renewable energy, industrial modernization, upgrading transport corridors and logistics platforms, and enhancing tourism infrastructures. These focus areas align with both countries’ strategic development plans, signaling intent for long-term cooperation.

Implications for Business and Investment in Central Asia

This evolving Uzbekistan-Croatia cooperation opens noteworthy prospects for international companies. The accent on energy and transport infrastructure upgrades implies rising demand for construction materials, innovative engineering solutions, and logistic services.

Moreover, the focus on renewable energy and industrial diversification provides fertile ground for foreign investment in cutting-edge technologies and eco-friendly materials. Institutional cooperation and preparatory bilateral visits further signal a commitment to smoother business facilitation and regulatory environments, lowering entry barriers for international players.
