On July 10, 2025, in Beijing, a ceremonial opening of the joint venture UTK International Logistics Co. Ltd took place, marking an important milestone in the strategic transport partnership between Uzbekistan and China.
Attended by Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov alongside officials and business representatives from both countries, the launch formalized cooperation between Uzbekistan’s JSC “Uztemiryoilcontainer” and China’s Xinjiang Union of Railway International Logistics Co. Ltd.
Headquartered in the city of Urumchi, UTK International Logistics will focus on consolidating freight for shipment along the route “China – Central Asia,” including China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. The company aims to develop multimodal transport solutions using modern logistics technologies while also attracting Chinese subsidies to support these initiatives.
The joint venture is poised to commence container train shipments on the China – Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan route shortly after completing necessary legal formalities. This effort represents a critical step toward integrating the transport systems of the involved countries, strengthening Uzbekistan’s role as a key logistics hub in the region.
Stakeholders highlighted the strategic importance of this new enterprise for deepening transport and logistics collaboration, increasing transit potential, and broadening foreign economic relations between China, Uzbekistan, and the wider Central Asian region.
Significance for regional business and international investors
By streamlining containerized freight flows through Urumchi, the new hub facilitates faster, more reliable transport of raw materials, components, and finished goods between China and Central Asia, including Uzbekistan’s emerging markets.
Strengthening Uzbekistan’s position as a regional logistics hub enhances the country’s integration into international trade corridors, fosters a more business-friendly environment, and supports the development of infrastructure necessary for the growth of business in various industries.
Overall, these developments signal a substantive boost to Uzbekistan’s transport and logistics sector capacity while opening new channels for foreign economic cooperation and trade connectivity with China and Central Asia.
