Samsung launches TV and washing machine production in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan has officially welcomed Samsung’s manufacturing footprint to its industrial landscape, as the Korean tech giant commenced production of televisions and washing machines at the Silk Road Electronics facility in Saran, Karaganda region. The milestone represents a significant expansion of Samsung’s regional manufacturing strategy, transforming Kazakhstan into a key production hub for Central Asian markets.

The new production lines will manufacture Samsung washing machines equipped with SmartThings ecosystem integration, alongside high-resolution televisions featuring Smart TV functionality, including Crystal UHD 4K, FHD, and HD models. Future plans include launching production of the premium QLED television series, positioning the facility as a comprehensive manufacturing center for Samsung’s diverse product portfolio.

Production targets for 2025 are set at 10,000 televisions and 25,000 washing machines, while the facility’s total annual capacity can accommodate up to 150,000 televisions and 200,000 washing machines. This ambitious scale reflects Samsung’s confidence in the regional market potential and the facility’s operational capabilities.

Strategic Partnership Framework

The project emerged through a comprehensive partnership model involving government support, private investment, and international business collaboration. According to the Ministry of Industry and Construction, this initiative will generate employment opportunities, attract foreign investment, facilitate technology transfer, and stimulate development in related industries across the region.

Silk Road Electronics, which launched operations in late 2023, transformed the former rubber products plant in Saran with investments totaling 36.2 billion tenge ($67 million). The facility represents a multinational venture, with shareholders from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Singapore, demonstrating the cross-border appeal of Central Asian manufacturing opportunities.

Regional Manufacturing Hub Development

Beyond Samsung production, the facility manufactures various home appliances under brands including Royal, Shuvaki, Vesta, and Artel, showcasing its versatility and multi-brand capabilities. The company’s 2025 production plan targets 423,000 household appliance units, primarily serving domestic demand, with expansion plans reaching 1.1 million devices annually by 2028.

Export strategies include penetrating Central Asian markets and Mongolia, leveraging Kazakhstan’s strategic geographical position and growing manufacturing expertise. This export orientation positions the facility as a regional distribution center, extending beyond domestic market service to serve neighboring countries’ growing consumer demands.

For international companies in furniture, construction, and interior sectors, this development signals Kazakhstan’s emergence as a serious manufacturing destination with proven capabilities in complex appliance production. The successful Samsung partnership demonstrates the country’s capacity to meet international quality standards while offering competitive production costs. Companies considering regional expansion can view this as validation of Kazakhstan’s industrial infrastructure, skilled workforce availability, and government commitment to supporting foreign investment. The facility’s multi-brand production model also suggests opportunities for contract manufacturing arrangements, while the planned export operations indicate growing regional market access from Kazakhstan’s strategic location. This development particularly benefits companies seeking to establish Central Asian market presence without extensive initial infrastructure investment, as existing manufacturing capabilities and distribution networks are already operational and expanding.
