Chinese companies plan diversified investment projects in Fergana region

Chinese companies are positioning themselves for significant expansion in Uzbekistan’s Fergana region, with ambitious plans spanning from advanced materials manufacturing to renewable energy infrastructure. The latest developments signal a strategic deepening of Sino-Uzbek economic cooperation in one of the country’s most industrially promising regions.

Regional governor Khayrulla Bozorov recently hosted negotiations with a delegation of Chinese investors, where Zhongan Materials Technology Co., Ltd. unveiled plans for establishing a comprehensive industrial park focused on new materials production. The facility will encompass multiple manufacturing streams, including coal processing for environmentally clean fuel production, modern furniture manufacturing using metal and wood materials, solar-powered lighting equipment, eco-friendly concrete blocks, and stone-polymer wall and ceiling panels.

The Chinese company’s vision extends beyond manufacturing, with additional projects including a business service center and residential complex development, creating an integrated industrial ecosystem in the region.

Wind power expansion on the horizon

Parallel to the materials park initiative, Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group, represented by chairman Ma Rensheng, has proposed constructing a wind power station in Fergana. The company brings specialized expertise in wind turbine design, manufacturing, installation, and maintenance services, positioning the project as part of Uzbekistan’s broader renewable energy development strategy.

Governor Bozorov expressed readiness to provide comprehensive support for these initiatives while emphasizing the necessity of detailed project planning for each venture. The negotiations concluded with agreed joint measures aimed at accelerating project implementation timelines.

Strategic implications for international business

These developments represent significant opportunities for international companies operating in furniture, construction materials, and manufacturing sectors. The establishment of a new materials industrial park creates potential supply chain partnerships, particularly for companies seeking cost-effective production bases with access to Central Asian and broader regional markets. The integration of modern furniture manufacturing capabilities using both metal and wood materials opens doors for international design collaborations and export opportunities.

For construction industry players, the planned production of eco-friendly concrete blocks and stone-polymer panels indicates growing local manufacturing capacity that could reduce import dependencies and create new sourcing options. The business service center component suggests infrastructure development that could facilitate easier market entry and operational support for foreign companies. Additionally, the renewable energy focus through wind power projects signals Uzbekistan’s commitment to sustainable industrial development, potentially attracting environmentally conscious international partners and investors seeking green manufacturing locations.
