France and Uzbekistan have established a joint Chamber of Commerce

In a landmark meeting held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and French President Emmanuel Macron have taken significant steps to enhance bilateral relations by launching the Uzbek-French Chamber of Commerce and announcing the upcoming opening of a Business France office in Tashkent. These initiatives aim to bolster the business partnership between the two nations.

President Macron’s official visit to Uzbekistan on November 1st, accompanied by a high-profile delegation of government officials, business leaders, and cultural and scientific luminaries, marks a pivotal moment in Uzbek-French relations. The visit underscores both countries’ commitment to elevating their relationship to a strategic partnership level, as highlighted in their joint statement.

The discussions revealed ambitious economic goals, with trade turnover expected to hit 1 billion euros shortly. The investment partnership is also robust, with a joint portfolio exceeding 10 billion euros. Furthermore, a significant strategic cooperation program worth 1 billion euros is currently being implemented with the support of the French Development Agency.

France has expressed its readiness to assist Uzbekistan in its regional peace-building efforts and support its accession to the World Trade Organization, along with facilitating the signing of an Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the European Union.

The conclusion of these talks was marked by the signing of eight bilateral documents across finance, education, culture, and various other fields, indicating a deepened collaborative effort across multiple sectors.

Industry Implications

For the furniture and home goods industry, the establishment of the Uzbek-French Chamber of Commerce and the Business France office could lead to new business opportunities and partnerships. The inflow of French expertise and investment might encourage innovation and quality improvement in local manufacturing, aligning with global standards.
