EU Representative praises Uzbekistan’s constitutional amendments for strengthening human rights

Special Representative of the European Union for Human Rights, Eamon Gilmore, noted during his meeting with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on April 18 in Tashkent that a number of amendments to the Constitution of Uzbekistan contribute to further strengthening guarantees of the rights and freedoms of the country’s residents.

In particular, the European official highlighted novelties related to the principle of inviolability of the individual, strengthening of social and environmental rights, youth rights, development of civil society institutions, the abolition of the death penalty, and more.

Members of the European Union delegation emphasized that active cooperation at all levels is developing between Uzbekistan and the EU.
