The 64th edition of Salone del Mobile.Milano concluded on April 26, 2026, with 316,342 visitors from 167 countries – representing a 4.5% increase compared to 2025 – reaffirming the event’s position as a global benchmark for the design sector. Held at Fiera Milano Rho from April 21–26, the six-day showcase brought together 1,900 brands from 32 countries across more than 169,000 square metres of exhibition space. Against a backdrop of geopolitical instability and shifting market demand, the event demonstrated the industry’s ability to sustain growth and explore new business opportunities.
International trade visitors accounted for 68% of total attendance – consistent with 2025 – highlighting the Salone’s role as a concrete platform for internationalisation, networking and business development. Over six days, companies, buyers, investors, retailers, contractors, designers and international media engaged in high-value networking and content exchange.
Emerging Geographic Influence
The 2026 edition marked a significant turning point in global design representation. Design studios from Saudi Arabia, Guatemala, Chile, Brazil and China entered the international design conversation simultaneously for the first time, each carrying production philosophies rooted in their own geography. This emergence of design perspectives from previously underrepresented regions represented one of three structural signals that defined the edition.
Visitor distribution by country revealed evolving market dynamics. China maintained its dominant position, while European markets demonstrated notable resilience. Germany moved to second place (up 5.1% compared to 2025), Spain advanced to third (up 8.7%), Poland secured fifth place (up 2.1%), and Austria reached thirteenth (up 15.7%). Beyond Europe, the United States showed significant recovery with an 8.8% increase, while the United Kingdom grew by 10.4%. Emerging markets also gained momentum: Canada increased by 28%, Mexico by 15%, and South Korea by 4.5%.
Exhibition Sectors and New Initiatives
The biennial exhibitions reinforced the Salone’s strategic importance as a platform for sector evolution. EuroCucina with FTK – Technology For the Kitchen featured 106 brands from 17 countries, while the International Bathroom Exhibition gathered 163 brands from 14 countries, both emphasizing industrial quality, technology and contemporary lifestyle solutions. SaloneSatellite continued to champion emerging talent, with 700 designers under 35 from 39 countries and 23 international schools and universities participating.
Salone Raritas made its debut as a new platform dedicated to collectible design, limited editions and high craftsmanship. Across Pavilions 9–11, 28 galleries from 12 countries were curated by Annalisa Rosso and architecturally designed by Formafantasma as a large architectural lantern. The section brought together exhibitors around a shared principle: objects whose making can be accounted for, whose origin is part of their meaning.
Looking beyond the 2026 edition, the Salone presented the curatorial masterplan for Salone Contract 2027, developed by Rem Koolhaas and David Gianotten of OMA. This new initiative addresses a market segment worth 68 billion euros, shifting focus beyond individual products to explore complex systems, integrated supply chains and global market dynamics.
International Recognition and Strategic Partnerships
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs appointed Salone del Mobile.Milano as Ambassador of Italian Design Worldwide during the event’s opening ceremony. This designation formalises a new phase of collaboration with the Ministry, supported by a Framework Agreement with FederlegnoArredo, aimed at consolidating Italian design presence in key international markets through an integrated network of institutions, embassies and Italian Cultural Institutes.
Year-round international initiatives supported attendance growth, spanning Expo Osaka 2025, a three-year partnership with Art Basel Miami Beach and Hong Kong, and B2B missions to India, the United States, Canada and China. The event also marked the Salone’s first spin-off in Saudi Arabia. The Italian Trade Agency facilitated participation through a delegation of over 200 contract sector professionals from 51 countries.
Community Engagement and Cultural Programming
Press and media participation reached 6,039 registrations, including 2,828 from abroad, broadening the event’s international reach. Notably, younger generation involvement increased significantly: 8,057 Italian students, 6,361 foreign students and 700 designers under 35 from 39 countries participated, reinforcing the Salone’s role as a bridge connecting education, research and industry.
Design enthusiasts – participants outside the industry professional category – reached 37,431, supported by 24 themed itineraries designed to guide discovery and participation. The Common Archive event, promoted by the Salone Observatory, activated 19 major public and private archives with over 50 guided tours and free talks, showcasing more than 150 historic architecture and design collections to the international audience.
Sector Response and Future Direction
