Strategic trade platform bridges manufacturing excellence with global demand

Post-show report • MFFM 2025

The Malaysia Furniture Furnishings Market (MFFM) 2025 has successfully concluded its second edition, firmly establishing itself as a cornerstone event in the international furniture sourcing calendar. Held from September 4-6 at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, the event was inaugurated by YB Datuk Chan Foong Hin, Deputy Minister of Plantation & Commodities.

As the deputy minister stated in his opening speech, “MFFM has rapidly established itself as more than just a showcase. It has become Malaysia’s strategic nexus for furniture trade, with a dual mission of propelling exporters into international markets while strengthening roots in our domestic economy. In today’s climate of tariffs, shifting supply chains, ESG compliance pressures and changing consumer lifestyles, this dual focus is not only advantageous but essential.”

The event, founded on the vision of “Connecting Markets, Expanding Business Horizons,” lived up to its mission by acting as a vital bridge linking the manufacturing excellence of Malaysia and the broader region with international demand. Project director Karen Goi of Derrisen Sdn Bhd noted that MFFM provides a “critical face-to-face opportunity to discover Malaysian innovation, quality, and value.”

Industry resilience amid market challenges

Despite external headwinds, the Malaysian timber industry continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience. In 2024, timber product exports reached RM22.9 billion, an increase of 4.9 percent compared to 2023. Wooden furniture alone contributed RM9.9 billion, representing growth of 8.4 percent. Furniture today accounts for more than 40 percent of Malaysia’s total timber exports, with products reaching over 160 countries including the United States, China, Japan, Singapore and Australia as top markets.

Exhibition growth and international attendance

This year’s edition demonstrated remarkable growth, with organizers reporting a notable increase of over 30% in exhibiting companies compared to its 2024 debut. The show floor presented a comprehensive range of products, with home furniture forming the core category including bedroom, living room, dining, sofa and home office solutions, followed by commercial furniture for the hotel, resort, and restaurant sectors. A key emerging trend was the growing popularity of pets and pet-friendly furniture, highlighting the industry’s innovative response to evolving consumer lifestyles.

MFFM 2025 attracted approximately 300 buyers from 38 countries and regions, a significant expansion from the 32 represented the previous year. This more diverse attendance, supported by a dedicated Hosted Buyers Programme, created rich networking opportunities. Buyer feedback was highly positive, with participants expressing satisfaction with exhibitor quality and requesting even larger future editions.

Strategically timed for the September sourcing cycle, MFFM 2025 offered a focused B2B environment for discovering new products. Supported by the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities and key industry bodies including the Malaysian Timber Industry Board, Malaysian Timber Council and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), the event demonstrated its dual value in propelling Malaysian exporters onto the world stage while providing global buyers with a curated sourcing destination.

MFFM 2026 will be held from September 3-5, 2026 at the same venue.
