The inaugural edition of idd cologne will take place from 26 to 29 October 2025, establishing itself as a new premium trade fair for high-quality interior design concepts. The event will unite leading brands, industry professionals and design enthusiasts from across Europe under the central theme “Shaping Homes & Hospitality” – an invitation to reimagine residential, hotel, hospitality and public spaces with fresh perspectives.
The theme reflects the evolving demands placed on interior design, where aesthetic excellence must now align with sustainability concerns and greater awareness of how environments affect well-being. This shift has redirected focus toward a holistic design approach that considers multiple factors in creating high-quality living and guest spaces.
“With a diverse range of products and services exhibited by leading premium brands and an inspiring event programme, idd cologne is positioning itself as a pivotal source of inspiration for future-oriented interior design concepts. Our aim is to energise the entire industry – from the specialised trade and interior design professionals to decision-makers in the contract and corporate business sectors, not forgetting private visitors with a passion for design – and play an active role in shaping the future of living and interior design,” says Maik Fischer, Director of idd cologne.
Four Key Focus Areas Define Event Direction
The trade fair will spotlight durability and passion as complementary rather than competing values. Sustainability begins with choosing longevity – high-quality products that stand the test of time while minimizing resource consumption and waste generation. “Durability goes hand in hand with a passion for design, beauty and quality. Our industry faces the task of actively shaping interior design so that these values are reflected in holistic concepts. And that is precisely where idd cologne comes in: as a platform where visions take on a physical form that can be experienced,” explains Dick Spierenburg, Creative Director of idd cologne.
Well-being and comfort represent another central focus, acknowledging how surroundings influence mood, behavior and social interaction. The event will present concepts that extend beyond mere functionality, showcasing spaces that foster security, strengthen social connections and support rest and recuperation.
Material selection emerges as a design foundation, with growing interest in natural or environmentally friendly production methods. The challenge for the interior design industry lies in developing sustainable options while meeting the highest design standards, particularly in the premium sector where material choice increasingly represents a values statement.
