LIGNA.Forum digital with new impulses for the woodworking industries

27-29 Sep 2021 • LIGNA.Innovation Network

The LIGNA.Forum digital will be held as part of the new online event LIGNA.Innovation Network, which runs from 27 to 29 September 2021. The two-day conference programme will feature recognized industry experts on the focus topics of Prefab Building Processes and Woodworking Transformation. The German- and English-language presentations and panel discussions will be streamed live from the H’Up in Hall 18 at the Hannover Exhibition Center.

The LIGNA.Forum digital will start on 27 September following the official opening of the LIGNA.Innovation Network, at which Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of the Board of Deutsche Messe AG, Hannover, will welcome participants.

The morning of the first day of the event will be devoted to the focus topic of Prefab Building Processes in timber construction. The processes include the use of wood as a building material and the respective steps in the planning, prefabrication and assembly of timber structures.

Dominik Wolfschütz, VDMA, will start with a contribution on “Mass Timber – Global Markets and Technological Developments”. Andreas Rudolf, Minda Industrieanlagen GmbH, will then present a best-practice example from the field of plant and control technology for flexible cross-laminated timber production – batch size 1.

Efficient and sustainable manufacturing processes are crucial for successful company development. In this context, logistics and material flow have a significant impact on the entire production. Hansbert Ott, Weinmann Holzbausystemtechnik GmbH, outlines a consistant production flow in timber construction in his contribution.

Jaroslav Soukup, Soukup s.r.o, then goes into mechanization and automation in prefabrication in his presentation. Prof. Andreas Heinzmann, Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences, will highlight new approaches for the production of the future with the topic “Automation in Timber Element construction – Flexible Robotic Solutions independent from Cycle times”.

In the afternoon, everything will revolve around the focus topic of Woodworking Transformation. Here, the current and future developments of digitalization will be highlighted and their opportunities for the industry – from craft businesses to industrial groups – will be discussed.

Progress in a networked economy can only be made if the players within the woodworking sector shape the path to digitalization together. “When, if not now?” ask Jan Essig and Julia Kasper from tapio, pointing the path to digitalization in the wood industry.

Giacomo Montanelli, SCM Group, continues the programme with the presentation “Smart & Human evolution of batch-one integrated factory for a variety of rooms/furniture components”. “Application of AR Technology in Training using the Example of a CNC Machining Centre” is the focus of the presentation by Martin Kasselmann, Fachschule für Holztechnik Melle.

Afterwards, Raphaël Prati, Biesse, Paolo Galli, HSD, and Marc Dorchain, Software AG, will exchange views on the topic of “ZDMP – Zero-Defects Manufacturing Platform”.

Why would the seven woodworking machinery world leaders team up? If you want the answer to that, join the following exciting panel discussion with Raphaël Prati, Biesse, Ernst Esslinger, Homag, and Alexander Broos, German Machine Tool Builders’ Association (VDW), together with Michael Ober, IKEA Industry, and Luca Föhn, Borm-Informatik, debating on how to make the customers’ lives izy.

What challenges does batch size 1 production pose for SMEs and industrial manufacturers? How can flexible production with continuous production and information flows be guaranteed? And what answers do automation solutions offer? These questions will be addressed by Dr Bernhard Dirr, Managing Director of the VDMA Woodworking Machinery Association, as well as Elias Wagner, Schuler Consulting, Martin Schockwitz of Burger Küchen, Markus Hengst, Ulrich Rotte Anlagenbau, and Gisela Cousland of DeinSchrank.de, who will discuss the challenges and success factors of an order-based production with manufacturers and experts from the furniture industry.

The morning of the second conference day continues the focus topic “Woodworking Transformation”. Stefan Eisenkohl, Baumer Inspection, will take up the topic of “Digitalization & AI as a contribution to resource management”.

Anja Stolte, Fachschule für Holztechnik Melle, will present the “Production of a sample piece of furniture using RFID technology”. In addition, Joachim Grzib, 2020 Technologies GmbH, explains how diversification can be achieved as a result of end-to-end digitalization. And Marc Abel, Esterer WD GmbH, explains how investments can be optimized and planned more securely.

The discussion round on “Robotics in the wood and furniture industry” with Patrick Schwarzkopf, Managing Director of the VDMA Robotics and Automation Association, Martin Eigenstetter, Tischlerei Eigenstetter, Otwin Kleinschmidt, Yaskawa, and Achim Gauß, Zimmer Group, will conclude the morning programme.

In the afternoon, the focus topic “Prefab Building Processes” is once again on the agenda. Dominik Wolfschütz, VDMA Woodworking Machinery Association, Robert Falch, Minda, Dr. Otto Leible, Weinig Concept, and Christian Fild from Henkel Switzerland will discuss how to remain competitive with efficient CLT and GLT production in the face of high raw material costs. Afterwards, Dominik Wolfschütz will also once again give his lecture on “Mass Timber – Global Markets and Technological Developments”.

The two-day conference programme at LIGNA.Forum digital will conclude with the presentation of the German Timber Construction Award 2021, presented by Holzbau Deutschland under the patronage of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Housing. This is the tenth time the award has been presented at LIGNA.
