World’s leading trade fair for modern working environments to make Asian debut in Tokyo in 2022

26-28 Apr 2022 • ORGATEC Tokyo

Koelnmesse announced today its official plan to bring the world-renowned brand of ORGATEC to Japan in 2022, as a part of its globalisation strategy for its furniture and design portfolio. Jointly organised by Koelnmesse Japan and the Japan Office Institutional Furniture Association (JOIFA), the inaugural event ORGATEC TOKYO, will be the first of its kind in the country dedicated to the commercial and home office industries.

In addition to the traditional exhibition segments in ORGATEC, a themed interzum showcase will focus on relevant office furniture components, fittings, accessories, and materials. interzum, the leading platform for the furniture production and interior construction industry, remains a key source of innovations where trends and visions shape future living spaces.

The event will also feature seminars and trend zones to encourage new ideas and inspirations for the modern workspace and more. ORGATEC TOKYO aims to be the trade fair that will redefine the way we work for years to come.

As the world’s third-largest economy, Japan’s office furniture market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 3.96% from 2021 to 2025. In addition, Japan being the main office furniture manufacturer and consumer in Asia Pacific excluding China, accounts for 50% of the region’s total production and consumption. To top it off, Japan is synonymous with quality and innovation and regularly serves as a test market before products are expanded to other Asian markets, including key gateway cities such as Shanghai, Seoul, Taipei, and Singapore.

“We are witnessing a strong demand in high-quality trade fairs for the office furniture industry in Asia, and we are very excited to have ORGATEC in Japan next year. Although the international trade of office furniture has been largely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, it showed first signs of recovery in the second half of the year 2020, with a forecasted higher rebound from 2021 for the Asia-Pacific market,” shared Mr Akihiro Kuroda, Chairman of the Japan Office Institutional Furniture Association (JOIFA).

“The pandemic has brought about huge changes to our lives and the traditional office industry, with many working from home and having more flexible working arrangements. We see a huge potential of growth in this area as more companies are making changes to their current office setup to one that is more versatile, with flexible co-working space, and more home office solutions. Such furniture is growing in demand to further increase employees’ work efficiency,” commented Mr Makoto Takagi, Managing Director of Koelnmesse Japan.

“With Asia Pacific being the largest region in the global institutional and office furniture market in 2020, and the strong support from JOIFA, we are confident to recreate and bring the proven ORGATEC brand to Asia,” Mr Takagi added. As an inaugural event, ORGATEC TOKYO aims to attract over 150 leading brands and 20,000 trade visitors from Japan, neighbouring countries, and key cities in AsiaPacific.
