Workplaces reimagined through authentic human connection

27-30 Oct 2026 • ORGATEC

ORGATEC 2026 is introducing its first-ever central theme: “From Rooms to Relationships: Designing Spaces in an Ever-Changing World.” With this thematic framework, the leading international trade fair shifts its spotlight to humans, their relationships within work and contract spaces, and ways to navigate continual change. Taking place in Cologne from 27 to 30 October 2026, ORGATEC will showcase how purely functional settings can be transformed into spaces that foster genuine connection, creativity, collaboration and a sense of belonging, while offering adaptive solutions to sustain these qualities amid constant change.

Addressing transformation through design

Social, technological and environmental changes are presenting new challenges for the design of work and contract spaces. Digitalisation, hybrid models, sustainability and rising expectations regarding collaboration are transforming how spaces are perceived and designed. The rapid pace of these shifts demands a more flexible approach to interior design than has previously been the norm.

“The central theme of ORGATEC 2026 underscores the idea that future spaces will have to transcend mere functionality. They are increasingly turning into places where people come together and where design, technology and human experience intertwine, and should be designed with the flexibility needed to meet the demands of our ever-changing world,” says Maik Fischer, Director of ORGATEC. “ORGATEC sees itself as a catalyst for this development, serving as a key platform where the industry can network, share expertise and collaboratively develop innovative approaches to workspace and contract solutions.”

Key megatrends shaping workspace evolution

The thematic focus is anchored in two global megatrends with particular relevance to workspace and contract environments. The first – human-to-human experience – recognises the growing need for genuine connection and meaningful exchanges in an increasingly digitalised world. Rather than allowing technology to dominate workplace interactions, design and technology can work together to promote social interaction and facilitate collaboration while going beyond mere functionality.

The second megatrend addresses transition as a constant reality. Change is no longer exceptional but has become the new normal, occurring through ongoing processes rather than abrupt leaps. Organisations must manage change while actively shaping it and flexibly responding to developments. This requires design solutions that continually adapt to evolving needs – solutions that are resource-efficient, creative, adaptable and multifunctional.

Practical value for industry participants

By establishing this central theme, ORGATEC provides orientation during times of transformation while delivering tangible added value to all who design and utilise spaces. For exhibitors, the thematic framework enables them to present innovations as direct responses to key megatrends and create holistic approaches that generate new synergies and cross-selling opportunities. Visitors will access a platform to discover inspiration, exchange ideas and find innovative concepts and practical tools to successfully shape transformation in their own work and project environments.

As a key hub in the furniture industry, Cologne will host an international platform promoting innovation and forward thinking throughout the sector. ORGATEC 2026 will evolve beyond technical discussions into a global gathering for all those reimagining and redesigning modern working environments and contract solutions.
