India explores manufacturing and investment opportunities in modernizing Uzbekistan

At a business conference in Delhi on June 30, the Embassy of Uzbekistan presented a comprehensive overview of the country’s investment and trade-economic potential to Indian business leaders and SME heads. The event, co-organized with India’s Global Trade and Technology Council (GTTCI), highlighted specific sectors where collaboration between the two nations could generate substantial returns.

Focus on manufacturing and industry

The presentation centered on Uzbekistan’s evolving capacity in pharmaceuticals, textiles, silk production, leather processing, information technologies, healthcare, construction materials manufacturing, and tourism. These sectors represent areas where Indian expertise and capital could align with Uzbekistan’s modernization efforts and improving business environment.

Uzbekistan has been positioning itself as an attractive hub for foreign investors through a combination of incentives: tax benefits, access to affordable energy resources, and designated industrial zones. The country has also secured trade preference agreements with both the European Union and the United States, potentially creating opportunities for Indian manufacturers to use Uzbekistan as a gateway to these markets and the broader Commonwealth of Independent States region.

Bilateral initiatives and future engagement

Discussions during the conference emphasized untapped opportunities in expanding trade partnerships. The summit also addressed active Indian business participation in the upcoming IV Tashkent International Investment Forum and reviewed bilateral agreements already in place.

Business negotiations conducted at the conference explored new project implementations, investment channels, and pathways for increasing exports of products manufactured in Uzbekistan to Indian markets.

Rashmi Saluja, chairman of GTTCI, emphasized the strategic significance of deepening bilateral ties. “The concept of ‘New Uzbekistan’ has taken shape internationally. The republic is acquiring a completely new outlook, and these transformations are reflected both in major cities and in smaller settlements across the regions,” she noted, underscoring the scope of reforms underway across Uzbekistan’s economy.

Significance for international investors

For international companies in manufacturing, construction, interior design, textiles, leather goods, and related sectors, this conference signals concrete movement toward establishing deeper operational ties between India and Uzbekistan. The presentation of industrial zones, tax structures, and energy costs reflects Uzbekistan’s systematic effort to attract foreign direct investment. The involvement of Indian SME leaders indicates growing interest in supply chain partnerships and joint ventures that could reshape the regional manufacturing landscape. International players monitoring Central Asian market expansion should consider how Uzbek modernization efforts and Indian industrial capabilities could create collaborative opportunities for accessing multiple regional markets simultaneously.
